High Temperatures and Humidex Advisory
Environment Canada issues a Humidex advisory when the Humidex will reach 40 or more and these conditions are expected to last for 1 hour or more.
When this occurs Referees and coaches are encouraged to allow for several water breaks during the game and at a minimum a break at approximately the half way point of each half. Coaches should also ensure that players hydrate themselves prior to and during the game.
The ERSL understands the concerns of parents and coaches when these warnings occur. A decision to cancel games would have to be taken first thing in the morning in order for teams and referee assignors to have sufficient time to inform everyone. The ERSL includes the area from Cornwall to Ottawa to Belleville and weather conditions can be very different in each area. Therefore, the ERSL will not cancel games.
The procedure will remain as it is now. Teams and referees are required to proceed to the game and then a decision can be taken at that time whether the conditions, including heat, weather, field condition, are safe for the game to proceed.
